EXHIBITION INFO & SUBMISSION FORM

ARTWORK MEASUREMENTS AND SUBMISSION INFO. This is the standard information for exhibitions but some calls may vary with regard to media and selected artist fee.

Please note that The House of Smalls is a small space with a high ceiling. Due to the age and status of the premises, the floor cannot be drilled into, and installations cannot be hung from the ceiling or light system.

GALLERY SPACE:

Artwork must not exceed around 110cm on its top edge (INC mount/frame if applicable). This is a guide only, if your work is substantially larger please contact me.

Plinths for 3D artwork have footprints of 30cm x 30cm, 20cm x 20cm, and there is a chest measuring 100cm x 40cm for larger pieces.

There is limited space for floor standing work - again, please contact me if your work is very big.

DOLLHOUSE:

Wall artwork must not exceed 13cm x 13cm x 1cm (INC mount/frame if applicable). 3D artwork should have a maximum footprint of 8cm x 8cm x 15cm(H).

Artists will be notified of selection shortly after the call deadline. Please respond to the notification of selection as soon as you receive it - THOS shows have a quick turnaround and spaces will be offered to other artists in the event that you do not respond/decide not to go ahead.

INFORMATION FOR SELECTED ARTISTS

Artwork must please arrive within the stipulated period (unless we have come to a separate agreement). Artwork arriving late impacts the curation of a show and jeopardises exhibition opening.

GALLERY ARTISTS

Work does NOT need to be framed but it must have a fixing attached and be ready for hanging. Please do not use mirror plates as THOS is currently in an old tenement building and drilling into the walls can be problematic. There is a STAS hanging system and secure D rings attached to artwork (with or without cord) work brilliantly. Bulldog clips and/or magnets will be used for free hanging paper/photography/textile works.

Textile Artists - if you are framing your piece(s) and it does not risk damage to the work, removing the glass can make a significant difference to the viewing (and photographing) of textiles. My own experience and that of visitors is that they enjoy being able to see the intricacy and depth of artwork, often masked by highly reflective glass/perspex. This is a suggestion only!

DOLLHOUSE ARTISTS

For wall work if necessary and where possible please back your work with stiff card or similar, or attach a loop/hook for textiles/hanging sculptures. Work does NOT need to be mounted or framed unless your submission included one. I use white tack to attach foamboard to the back of work and onto the dollhouse wall, and small hooks/nails if your work has hanging tabs etc.

ARTWORK SALES

If an artwork is sold, a remittance advice and funds will be transferred to you as soon as they appear in The House of Smalls bank account. Sold work will be kept in the exhibition until the end of the show unless the buyer's circumstances make that difficult, ie, they're travelling or it's a birthday gift etc.

PRINTS/CARDS/BADGES/MISC

Artists are invited to include up to 5 prints of any size and/or up to 10 greeting cards/postcards/badges/similar for the display racks – they do not have to relate to the show in which you are exhibiting but visitors like the option to purchase a print/greeting card/postcard of the work on display where possible. Proceeds of sale of these items will be transferred at the end of the show.

Please note that a 15% commission is applied to all sales - please take this into consideration when pricing work.

The House of Smalls is entirely self-funded and all money raised through show fees and commission goes towards high street gallery rent, overheads, marketing and upkeep etc.

BUSINESS CARDS

Please include some business cards for the display rack. If you don’t have any and don’t have time/money to send any for printing, a lot of artists cut up old or unused pieces of work and write their name and contact details on the back. A quick, easy, and free way to make a unique piece of artwork for people to pick up, and always very popular!

RETURN OF WORK

If it's not possible for work to be collected at the end of a show, it will be posted back using Royal Mail tracked 48 unless an alternative courier has been requested. This is the cheapest and most reliable service, and there is the option to track work at any time.

As well as having a physical presence, all artwork will be featured on The House of Smalls social media, website and catalogue.
