​​In Her Hands is The House of Smalls' 30th exhibition and showcases textile artwork and art dolls by 60 women artists depicting and in recognition of women through history who toiled and entertained; filled the voids, fought the fights, oiled the cogs; and who kept (and keep) the world turning.

This show features Laure Meloy's ALMA/DOLL, an installation opera about the infamous ‘Kokoschka’s Doll’ - a life-sized fetish doll commissioned by painter Oscar Kokoschka of his ex-lover Alma Mahler - widow of Gustav Mahler and a composer in her own right - made by avant-garde textile artist Hermine Moos; the story is told from the viewpoint of the women involved: Alma Mahler, Hermine Moos, and the Doll herself. Set in a doll’s house, the piece weaves Alma’s own music with original sound art, voice overs and film. There was a live performance by the artist on opening night and a pre-recorded portion of the story, with voiceover and original music performed by 3 opera singers (3 acts of approximately 10 minutes each) can be viewed here.
